The mental skills for batting are what makes the difference in the achievement between players of the same skill level. The maximising of your technical skills through an ability to control your emotions, thinking correctly under pressure and making the correct decisions more often, separates achieving ones potential or not.
Achieving Optimum Performance State - This a very individual process and we all have an optimum position on the continuum. Some of us need to be highly aroused to perform while others need to be more laid back. This process starts with being aware of your mental state in certain situations and the subsequent performance outcomes.
1. The start of ones innings - what is my performance? - measure this: Am I fluent? Am I manic? Am I playing a lot of shots? Am I tentative?
2. Mid innings -
3. End of the innings -
Having the ability to stay in the moment and perform regardless of the situation.
Being honest about your skill level, ability and performance level.
Being aware of the things that you can control - specifically your emotions.
Performing your skill - how do you feel when you are hitting the mark every time.
What helps you get to this state - loud or quite music, deep breathing, distraction,
Nerves - The first thing to understand is that we all have a reaction to every situation. For some they call it nerves for others it is excitement, you can frame it anyway you wish, the importance is to accept and welcome it, do not deny it. Having strategies to cope with these situations is the most important thing. There are many strategies, deep breathing, consistent routine, positive self talk _ finding the one that works for you is the key to unlocking your potential.
