Fielding is often the skill that is neglected the most, especially at junior and amateur cricket, but is the one skill that all players will need to do in every match. Good fielding is what provides bowlers with more wickets and poor fielding affords batters more runs.
Being a good fielder has many advantages:
It ensures that you are always in the game - good fielders are put where the ball goes.
It ensures that you have the best opportunity to have an effect on the game
It takes pressure of your other skills, as you are still an important member of the team
To play at a high level you have to be a good fielder.
STOP, CATCH, THROW
Ensuring that you know your strengths in all 3 disciplines and work with these strengths to define your fielding persona and ultimately where you will field. Ultimately you will need to adequate in all areas but being exceptional in 1 or more areas makes you an asset to the team. i.e. slip catcher, throwing direct hits, fast arm from the boundary etc.
